When the power supply board output connector voltages were measured with a multi-meter the Va and Vs voltages were low. With power off, all other connectors to the power supply board were removed and power on again, the connector output voltages were found to be normal i. Next with the power off, I reconnect all the connections back to the power supply board except for the connector to the Y-sustain board.

When the power is turn on again, I am a able to activate the remote control. The sound came on and the TV channels can be activated.

The Y-sustain board is confirmed to be faulty.

Abaqus 2020 documentation

The Y-sustain board with part no: EAX is rare and expensive in the market, so the best solution is to trouble-shoot on components level. Check with the service manual there is little or limited information available for the Y sustain, Z sustain, control and Y buffer boards. Surprisingly, there are so many defective components which were shorted when tested with a multi-meter.

These components were measured found to be shorted:. After changing the defective parts, I though the repair was completed but it is far from over. Since the Y-buffer board is tested ok, the repaired Y-sustain board was re-assembled back on the chassis. When power is on, the TV sound came back as before but there is still no picture. After a few minutes, the sound cannot be heard anymore and the remote cannot be activated.

The Y-sustain board was re-checked for possible fault but no fault detected. The repaired Y and Z sustain boards were assembled back to the chassis, I expected the picture to turn on but it turned out to be disappointed again with no picture. The only good sign is that the TV channel sound is back. All the voltages measured on the Y and Z sustain board are within the specifications as marked on boards.

I suspect that the Y-sustain board is not switching on because the large heat sink on the board is not warm with the power on for a few minutes. Next I focus on trouble shooting the control board ERBand then I realized that I have overlooked the blinking led on the board. The led does not blink or light up at all and this confirmed that the control board is abnormal. I noticed that the control board IC has a small burnt hole on the top of the packaging. This confirmed that the control board was really faulty.

I managed to purchase a used control board from the internet at a reasonable good price.

After changing the control board the picture finally turn on but with unusual black patch on the screen as shown photo 7.Suppose for a moment that you have a Plasma TV that you've bought and owned for a few years now.

Let's just say it was a Samsung HPT, a fairly popular model back in the day and it had been chugging along just fine for as long as you can remember. You hear the Samsung 'twinkle' sound, as your TV slowly begins to power on but wait a minute, you noticed.

You hear only the sound of the game just starting to play but there's no picture. No problem, you think to yourself. Maybe the TV is starting to glitch out after so many years of dependable use.

It's so old, after all. It was about time that it started having some problems. So you hit the TV because you remember when you had your gran pappy's old tube TV, hitting it always solved the problem but still nothing. Ok, you thought to yourself. Maybe it wasn't like those old tube TV's. So then you tried turning it off and turning it back on again but to no avail. Then you tried unplugging it for five minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on again because you remember your old x86 desktop doing something similar and well, why the hell not?

That didn't solve it either. You sit there with your munchies and you started to think what could be possibly wrong with it.

This is actually a fairly common problem amongst Plasma TV's.

The Y-Sustain Board often times go kaput and you run into the problem of "no picture but still having sound". Everything else seems to work like volume control, changing the channels, and even changing the input from one to next.

Just replace the Y-Sustain Board and you should be good to go, right? Hold on there, cowboy. If and when "a part goes out," it works in a domino effect. In other words, when one board goes out, it often times takes out another board with it. Now, inside your TV, the direction of electrical current travels from left to right and when this set is inside your TV, from where you stand with the base of the "TV Stand opening" facing towards you, it would be from the "bottom up" that the electrical current travels.

In other words, when the lower buffer board goes bad, it usually takes out the Y-Sustain Board along with it. And before you go jumping the gun and concluding that maybe it's prudent to replace the Y-Sustain Board and just the lower buffer board without also replacing the upper buffer board as well, this is actually not a good idea.

Because if the lower buffer board goes bad and takes out the Y-Sustain Board along with it, it is just a matter of time before the upper board goes bad. And then you run into the same problem except this time, it will be the upper buffer board blowing out the Y-Sustain Board. And if nothing else, replacing the Y-Sustain Board together with the Buffer Boards will sufficiently eliminate the possibility that the short was coming from the upper buffer board thus minimizing the chances that you would end up blowing out one of the two working boards that you just bought.

Ultimately, it saves you time and money to replace them together as a set rather than replacing two of the three only to have one of the old boards blow out on you and taking out one of the two perfectly good board you had just bought a week ago.

And these Y-Sustain Boards don't come cheap nor are they easy to find. Created with Sketch. Toggle menu Login or Sign Up 0.JavaScript seems to be disabled in your browser.

The connector CN photo 1 was disconnected and all the output voltages on the connector pins were measured.

The VS and VA voltages were found to be missing. On visual inspection on the board, I found the high voltage capacitor CS has burnt mark on one of the lead as shown in photo 2. The capacitor was de-solder for confirmation. This confirmed that the power supply is working normal so I reconnect the connector CN With the power on VS and VA re-measured again, the voltage is returned to zero again. The TV can be activated now and the TV sound channel can be heard.

Hi Kent. I am now a proud member of Plasma Television Repair. I have found the manuals and service notes very helpful!Dear Coppelltvrepair, I have a Sanyo Plasma tv DP and it was working great, then one day the tv would not display any sound or picture. The tv does power up and the green light in the right lower corner lights up, but no sound or picture. I took of the back panel and noticed the error code light was green also, not blinking, the fuses showed continuity, and no capacitors appeared to be dome shaped.

I did notice a white paste had melted out from under the biggest heat sink on the y-sustain board. It leaked onto the fuse ,below the heat sink and IC, and onto the power connector. I tested the y-buffers as you described and both showed Mohms in the reverse direction, and infinity in the right direction. There is also a buzzing sound coming from the heat sink that leaked the white paste. Should I just get the y-sustain board repaired? I have an LG 60pz I was watching a movie, took 10 seconds to get a glass of water when I came back the sound was still normal but the screen was black.

Unkown don't know what outcome you had. I have the same 60PZ Researched much like you after having the same issue but what is driving me to change the Y SUS is after many searches a symptom of the Y SUS failure is the TV will occasionally power it self off and right back on.

This starting happening shortly before we starting losing the picture. Post said that this symptom would be result of Y SUS failure.

Do they need to be replaced in pairs, or can we just fix the YSUS? We get this question all the time and we give the answers all the time, so once and for all we'll post the answer here and just point people to it.

Right answer: It depends. Short answer: Yes - service both. Long answer: Read below. What are sustain boards and what do they do? Below is a picture of a randomly picked plasma which shows their location, which is again the same in all plasma TVs that we have seen this far. You can click on the image to see it in full size.

Roughly said, while the ZSUS activates all display lines at once thus affecting the whole display at the same time the YSUS, with the help of the buffers, is able to activate technically address the individual lines on the display.

LG 6871QYH053B (6870QYH005B) YSUS Board

Other than that, though, they do pretty much the same thing. The two boards work together on the display in order to produce proper images, however they do not need each other in order to function. In other words the function of one does not affect the function of the other. They work on the display practically independently from one another, only in a fashion synchronized by another board, so that you get to see what you want to see.

Direct conclusion from the above is that with some exceptions. When one sustain board fails it does not affect functionality of the other. The most notable exception that I can think of is when one of the boards takes power from the other and not directly from the power board. Technically, however, ZSUS' functionality is still not affected in this case - the board is functional, only the power to it is cut.

Which is to explain and underscore that functionality of one sustain is not affected by the other. Still, it is affected by something completely different, which suggests. It may still be better to service or replace both sustain boards at the same time. Here is what it is:.
